Area of Expertise: Music
"I think we are maybe just using new tools to make music with this idea of combining the traditional and contemporary. There is always going to be the traditional form. That won’t ever change."
Cris Derksen is a half-Cree half-Mennonite classically trained cellist and composer who blends contemporary and traditional music that isn't easy to define. She once shared the title of Principal Cellist of the UBC Symphony Orchestra, and has toured the world, sharing the stage with other well-known and incredibly talented Indigenous artists.
